February 16th and 17th, the collision repair industry is showing up to attend the 2018 Midwest Auto Body Trade Show in Des Moines, Iowa. There is a huge demand for education, and the Iowa Collision Repair Association is making sure 2018’s Trade Show is focusing on the current climate of the industry. In addition to a full slate of education and a packed trade show floor, there will be two notable guest speakers at this event.  Iowa Insurance Commissioner Doug Ommen will speak at the Saturday General Session, and Texas Attorney, Todd Tracy, who won the $42 Million John Eagle lawsuit in Dallas, Texas will be the Keynote Speaker.  Tracy’s ‘Anatomy of a Lawsuit’ explains the Texas lawsuit and how shops can be proactive to “keep sharks like me out of your business,” Tracy states.

Over 70 booths will fill the trade show floor to bring new technology, new products and new opportunities to the collision repair industry.  The educational line up concentrates, with laser vision, the importance of doing proper repairs.  The seminars and panel discussion start Friday afternoon.  Education for technicians and management continues Saturday morning.  This multi- faceted educational line up brings clarity and opens up the pathway for the collision repairer next steps.  These classes are designed to help shops and industry stakeholders work together to integrate positive change in the industry. See our website for a complete listing of classes, http://iowacra.com/education.

Amongst the education and trade show, seven community colleges will compete in the Midwest Community College Refinish Contest.  LKQ Corporation generously donates car hoods to colleges for the contest. This has become an important tradition, welcoming colleges to bring their students and to experience the entire show.

Friday night will be the perfect time for the Midwest Collision Industry to meet, catch up and network with all speakers and industry stakeholders at the Trade Show Welcome Reception.

2018 Midwest Auto Body Trade Show

2018 Trade Show to Focus on Climate of Collision Industry Today

Midwest Auto Body Trade Show 2018, Prairie Meadows, Altoona, Iowa

The 2018 Midwest Auto Body Trade Show will be focusing on the current climate of the collision industry right now!

This event is bringing important new technology, introducing new products, and opportunities to meet with the people bringing this to the market.

The educational line up at the 2018 show concentrates, with laser vision, the importance of doing proper repairs.  This multi- faceted educational line up brings clarity and opens up the pathway for the collision repairer next steps.

Iowa Insurance Commissioner, Doug Ommen, has accepted the invitation to speak Saturday at the General Session.   This will be the first time, Commisioner Ommen will have the opportunity to meet many Iowans from the automotive aftermarket industry.  We thank ICRA Lobbyist Scott Weiser for facilitating this engagement.

Texas Attorney Todd Tracy will wrap up this General Session. His legendary victory of winning a settlement of $42M for the Sebachan’s, a young couple that suffered greatly from the horrific accident that was exacerbated by an improper repair from a previous accident will be explored in ,”The Anatomy Of A Law Suit.”  The Tracy Law Firm’s Crash Lab in conjunction with the Auto Body Association of Texas has scientifically replicated the   Sebachan accident using 3 Honda Fits(the same car as in the accident) . Tracy has videos and will explain the results of the crash test.   Tracy will tell shops what they need to do to protect themselves.  When Tracy spoke in Texas last year he suggested, “Follow these steps/rules and keep sharks like me out of your business.”

The message of the 2018 Midwest Auto Body Trade Show is clear,” Be Educated, Don’t Be Afraid of Change, Do It Right, You Are Responsible and In Charge Of Your Own Destiny.”

“No matter how well-equipped, well-educated and certified your collision repair facility may be, all of that can be nullified by the pace of industry change……in the blink of an eye.  Membership and active participation in the Iowa Collision Repair Association will keep you informed and ahead of that change.  What are you waiting for ? Sign Up Today for the Midwest Auto Body Trade Show ,”

The Iowa Collision Repair Association announced Thursday that attorney Todd Tracy, who made headlines with a $31.5 million verdict against a Texas body shop, will deliver the keynote address at the 2018 Midwest Auto Body Trade Show in February.     “The 2018 show is responding to the current demands of the collision repair industry,” the ICRA wrote. “Keynote Speaker will be Attorney Todd Tracy who won the $42M lawsuit for improper repairs in Texas. In his presentation, he gives hands-on engineering techniques that will enable body shops to conduct more detailed repair estimates as they begin to start thinking like crashworthiness experts. In addition, Tracy will discuss strategies for shops ‘to keep people like him out of their business.’”   A Dallas County jury found that John Eagle Collision Center’s failure to follow OEM repair procedures for a 2010 Honda Fit during a more than $8,000 hail repair increased the severity of a collision for the vehicle’s next owners, Matthew and Marcia Seebachan.

“That Is 42 million reasons to attend  the Midwest Auto Body Trade Show,” Janet Chaney, ICRA Executive Director states, “We are predicting a record turnout at the Feb. 16-17, 2018, event.”          Leading industry educators will fill the compelling updated training agenda focusing on the new challenges facing repairers.  “We want to help everyone find a starting place,” says Trade Show Chairman, Dick Merron.  “70 vendors fill the trade show floor bringing updated equipment, product demonstrations, door prizes and more.    The show will also feature the Iowa Community College Refinish Competition, which the ICRA notes delivers “some very innovative and crazy hoods.” “Our students really like being involved with the show,” Des Moines Community College collision repair Chairman Gary Sanger said in a statement, “it is encouraging to see the industry reach out.”

The  Midwest Auto Body Trade Show is free for attendees.  This is THE place to network with your peers and begin your next step into the future.
